Gaeia makes shortlist at People and Environment Awards for Business....

The final shortlist for the 2013 People and Environment Awards for Business (PEABs) has been unveiled. Helen Tandy, financial adviser at Gaeia, and the Co-operative Group are among the nominees.

 

The winners will be announced on May 7 at an event in London that will seek to showcase green initiatives thriving across UK businesses. Leo Johnson, chair of the awards and son of environmentalist Stanley, described the shortlist as “truly inspiring”.

Nominees include Helen Tandy from Gaeia, a Manchester-based ethical investment advisory firm that celebrated its 20th anniversary in February. Tandy, who was interviewed by Blue & Green Tomorrow in February 2012, has been shortlisted in the banking and finance category.

Gaeia featured in The Guide to Ethical Financial Advice 2013 earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Co-operative is in the running for the building and construction award, as well as the retail award. The group recently launched its two-year ethical plan, in which it announced it had reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 43% since 2006, saving the company £65m annually.

Clothing firm Patagonia is also shortlisted for two awards, in the corporate social responsibility and supply chain categories. This follows its inclusion in a list of the world’s most ethical companies in April.
